Super Nico
My encounter with the concept of “subsurface” in GT fishing dates back 28 years, to 1998. At that time, diving pencils did not yet exist, and large poppers were the mainstream. While working at a GT guide service, we began experimenting with a wooden, subsurface sinking pencil—this was the origin. That lure produced results on a completely different level. However, due to its wooden construction, precise weight balancing was extremely difficult, and water absorption would alter its balance, eventually reducing its effectiveness. As a result, the project was abandoned. Even so, the concept of “subsurface” remained, becoming a personal pursuit of mine. By learning techniques from other types of fishing and through extensive on-the-water testing, I continued to refine a subsurface approach suited for GT. Today, subsurface fishing has become one of the main approaches in GT fishing. In this context, Jackson brought a prototype of the “Super Nico” during their annual test fishing trip. Its lateral casting performance, natural darting fall, and the VG system that consistently delivers maximum casting distance—this lure incorporates all the essential elements required in modern GT fishing. I am confident that this “Super Nico” will become a powerful weapon on the water. — Fishing Guide Service “Morizo” Goto Moritaka
